Sophie Dumon is a visual artist based in Crescent Head / Dunghutti country. Set between the ocean + the bush, her inspirations are based from these forms and palettes. Having played with textures of the earth + sand since a young age, this has now translated to foraging for rocks + ochre to create her own natural pigment. This curation and searching for pigment deepens the connection to the land while refining earthy tones + textures that can’t be replicated by other medias.

In blurring the lines between the natural & the manmade, her works combine these foraged pigments with acrylics, inks and pastels to create an expression of contrasts that can be found in nature. The light and the dark, the water and the earth, the soft and the rough.

Subsequently, her creations are an invitation to ground, to slow down + to appreciate the beauty that is all around.
